Hello, October! Our Favorite Fall Fun from Gainesville to the Gulf
This is a subtitle for your new post

There is something funny about fall in Florida.
We may still be wearing shorts, the afternoon temperature may not exactly scream sweater weather, and our palm trees definitely aren't changing colors—but give us a pumpkin patch, a little live music and one morning under 70 degrees and suddenly we are ALL IN.
October is honestly one of my favorite months in North Central Florida. Football is in full swing, evenings finally start feeling a little nicer, and there are festivals, pumpkin patches and outdoor events happening just about everywhere.
And because KNR's world stretches well beyond Gainesville these days, we decided to make this year's fall guide a little bigger.
So grab the kids, your friends, your dog—or just somebody willing to take your picture in front of a pumpkin—and come along.
Here are some of the events that caught our eye from Gainesville to the Gulf for October 2026.
๐ Gainesville: Corn Mazes, Pumpkins & Downtown Fall Fun
Crossroads Farm & Apiary Fall Festival and Corn Maze
If what you're picturing is an actual fall day on a farm, this one checks a lot of boxes.
Crossroads Farm & Apiary is open Saturdays and Sundays from October 3 through November 1. There is a crop maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, train rides, a bounce pad, animals, festival games, a corn bin, flower fields and plenty of photo opportunities. They also have beekeeper presentations, which is a fun little extra you don't find at every pumpkin patch.
Saturday hours are 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and Sundays are 2–6 p.m. Admission is listed at $12 for ages 3 and older, with children 2 and under free. Some activities have an additional charge. Fun 4 Gator Kids
3831 NW 156th Ave., Gainesville
Crossroads Farm & Apiary information
Rebecca note: This is probably the one I'd pick if you want the full pumpkin-patch-and-farm-day experience instead of just stopping somewhere to buy a pumpkin.
The Great Pumpkin Bash at Bo Diddley Plaza
Downtown Gainesville is getting into the fall spirit too.
The City of Gainesville's Great Pumpkin Bash is Saturday, October 17, from noon–5 p.m. at Bo Diddley Plaza. It is free and includes a pumpkin patch, corn maze, carnival games, food, games and a free photo booth. Gainesville, FL
That makes this an especially easy option if you want something festive without committing your entire Saturday.

Season of Screams at The Peanut Patch
Now, this one is not the sweet little pumpkin picture option. Or....the "teenage option".
For the people in your family who actually want to be scared, Gainesville's Peanut Patch is hosting Season of Screams every Friday and Saturday through October 31 from 5–11 p.m.
The nighttime attraction includes a haunted house, haunted hayride and haunted corn maze. Admission is listed at $20 cash/$25 online for adults and $15 cash/$18 online for children under 11. Fun 4 Gator Kids
8656 SW 75th St., Gainesville
๐ Alachua & High Springs: One of the Area's Classic Corn Maze Stops
Hollow Oaks Corn Maze
Hollow Oaks is tucked between Alachua and High Springs, so I absolutely count this as one of our local fall traditions.
Their 2026 season opened September 26 and runs every weekend in October plus the first weekend in November.
Hours are Friday 6–11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m.–11 p.m. and Sunday 2–6 p.m. Admission is listed at $15 for ages 13 through adult, $12 for ages 4–12 and free for ages 0–3. Mysite
18005 NW 190th Ave., High Springs
This is another one where I'd plan to stay awhile instead of trying to squeeze it between errands.
Alachua Pumpkin Patch
The Alachua Pumpkin Patch sponsored by First United Methodist Church of Alachua opens October 1 for its 26th year. The patch is located at 15710 NW US Hwy 441 in Alachua and is scheduled throughout October. Fun 4 Gator Kids
Sometimes you don't need rides, haunted trails and an elaborate festival. You just need pumpkins, cute pictures and somewhere close to home. This is a good one for exactly that.
๐งก Newberry: Pumpkins, Fall Fest & Plants
Newberry UMC Pumpkin Patch
Newberry United Methodist Church's community pumpkin patch opens October 9 and continues through Halloween. The city's calendar lists regular hours of 3–8 p.m. at 24845 W. Newberry Road. Newberry
This one gets bonus points for being an easy after-school outing. You could grab dinner, pick a pumpkin and still get everybody home at a reasonable hour.
Greenfield Fall Fest
Newberry's Greenfield Fall Fest is scheduled for Saturday, October 10 from 5–9 p.m. at the Easton Newberry Sports Complex. Newberry

Fall Horticultural Expo & Plant Market
This one is a little different—and I think it sounds really fun.
On October 17 from 9 a.m.–4 p.m., the Alachua County Agriculture & Equestrian Center hosts the 2026 Fall Horticultural Expo & Plant Market. - Admission and parking are free. Expect plant and garden vendors, native plants, Florida-Friendly Landscaping ideas, food trucks, children's activities, live entertainment, an orchid showcase and even Fang Fest through UF/IFAS. G'ville Garden Club
23100 W. Newberry Road, Newberry

And yes, I realize buying plants probably isn't technically an October activity. But tell that to anyone who has gone to a plant sale and come home with six things they had absolutely no intention of buying.
๐ Ocala: Pumpkin Patches, Haunted Trails & Music
Ocala has enough going on in October that you could easily make a whole weekend out of it.
Ocala First Pumpkin Patch
The Ocala First Pumpkin Patch runs October 1–31 at Ocala First United Methodist Church.
They have pumpkins, fall photo spots and several activities planned throughout the season. It's also pet-friendly, which I know matters to a lot of us. - Hours vary by day, with later hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Ocala / Marion County Florida
Cannon Farms Fall Festival
If you don't mind a little drive toward Dunnellon, Cannon Farms runs its Fall Festival through November 1.
The Marion County tourism office says the festival includes a pumpkin patch, hayrides, petting zoo, games, food and craft vendors, live music and plenty of fall photo spots. Ocala / Marion County Florida
This sounds like another good "make a day of it" destination.
Fort King Haunted Trail
This one looks genuinely cool.
After a five-year hiatus, the Fort King Haunted Trail returns Saturday, October 17 from 5–10 p.m. Admission is free.
From 5–8 p.m., families can enjoy trick-or-treating, field games, food trucks, photo opportunities and living-history activities. At 7 p.m., there are ghost stories under the stars, and beginning at 8 p.m., the trail gets considerably spookier with scare stations.
Free off-site parking, shuttles and an ADA-accessible tram are planned.
Fort King Haunted Trail details
Downtown Ocala First Friday Art Walk & Sunset Songs
October isn't all pumpkins.
Downtown Ocala's First Friday Art Walk is October 2 from 6–9 p.m., and the city's Sunset Songs Series returns October 9 from 7–9 p.m. at Citizens' Circle. Ocala, FL
So if your idea of a good fall night is live music, dinner and walking around downtown instead of getting lost in a corn maze, there you go.
๐ข Inverness: Apparently October Belongs to the Cooters
I have to say, Cootertober may win for best Florida festival name.
Inverness celebrates the local cooter turtle with an entire month of events, and they aren't doing it halfway. The 2026 schedule includes concerts, markets, movies, comedy, wrestling, Halloween events and more throughout downtown. Inverness
It kicks off October 1 from 7–9 p.m. with a free downtown concert featuring Razor's Edge, an AC/DC tribute band.Inverness
Then on October 2, you can see Hocus Pocus outdoors at Liberty Park at 7:30 p.m. or catch Cooter Blues! with Sheba and the Bluesmen at the Valerie Theatre. October 3 brings the Market at the Depot and the Cooter Country Music Festival. Inverness
And that is literally just the beginning of the month.

Rebecca note: If you live closer to Citrus County, bookmark this calendar. There are enough events that you don't need to drive back toward Gainesville every weekend to find something fun.
๐ด Crystal River: Fall, But Make It Coastal
And this is why I love our part of Florida.
You can pick pumpkins on Saturday and be staring at the water in Crystal River that same afternoon.
Rocktoberfest
Crystal River kicks off its fall lineup with Rocktoberfest on Saturday, October 3 from 5–9 p.m. at Crystal River Town Square.
The free concert features Jasmine Cain, along with food, drinks and downtown festivities. Bring a lawn chair and settle in.
Discover Crystal River (559 N. Citrus Ave., Crystal River)
Crystal River Scarecrow Fest
The Crystal River Scarecrow Fest returns October 10 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. downtown.
Heritage Village is scheduled to have costumes, games, vendors, food, children's activities and live music. Then you can stick around because the Crystal River Nights Concert Series begins at 5 p.m. in Town Square, with the Rick Lynn Band scheduled to perform.
Discover Crystal River's fall festival guide
This is probably my favorite kind of Florida fall day: wandering around downtown, listening to music, grabbing something to eat and ending the evening near the water.
Florida Fall Doesn't Have to Look Like Everyone Else's ๐
We may not have mountains covered in orange leaves.
We have mossy oaks.
We have palm trees.
We have pumpkin patches next to highways, corn mazes down dirt roads, downtown concerts, football weekends, manatees a short drive away—and apparently at least one entire month dedicated to a turtle.
I'll take it.
One of the things we love about living and working in North Central Florida is that every community really does have its own personality. Gainesville doesn't feel like Newberry. Newberry doesn't feel like Ocala. Inverness doesn't feel like Crystal River.
And somehow you can drive between all of them in an afternoon.
So whether you're new to the area, here for school, raising a family, visiting for the weekend or you've lived here long enough to remember when half these roads weren't roads yet, go do something local this October.
Buy the pumpkin.
Eat the festival food.
Listen to the band.
Take the picture.
And if you happen to see a manatee wearing a witch hat or a gator dressed like Dracula, KNR would obviously like photographic evidence. ๐๐
Happy October from all of us at KNR Property Management—from Gainesville to the Gulf.
